About;

‘The Exits’ is a satire artwork designed to create a contrast between the traumatizing stories of migrant women and the concept of Barbie. This art installation features nine dolls that represent the realities of female refugees who go through unimaginable horrific events when they are forced to leave their homeland. It is an attempt to sensitize people & create awareness about the struggles that these women have to go through, just to survive.

Women have always been more vulnerable and dehumanized in such circumstances. Following the theme of ‘Barbie’, the movie, the artists have tried to challenge the unrealistic perfection created by Barbie and how far it is from reflecting the diversity in women & their real ‘Barbieland’. By using dolls, it is an attempt to shed light upon the young girls who lose their childhood in these situations. The artists aim to empower voiceless, trapped women by giving them a platform to share their stories.

Application;

The app developed for The Exits art installation enhances the experience by amplifying the stories behind each doll through audio interviews with real migrant women. It offers an intimate glimpse into their struggles, resilience, and strength in the face of unimaginable challenges. Each doll is paired with its own narrative, allowing users to explore the harsh realities of displacement, loss, and survival.

The app deepens the impact of the installation by providing a platform for voiceless, marginalized women to share their stories, raising awareness about their dehumanization while challenging the perfection portrayed in mainstream depictions of women.
